The first thing that strikes the mind of a tired and rundown person is coffee or tea. They do give tired people some relief, but don’t forget it is for a short period. Its effect will fade away just as fast as it came in. Doctors and nutritionists don’t advice caffeine (found in coffee bean and tea leaf) as an energy booster. On the contrary they will drain the little energy available, besides getting you addicted to it. Coffee and tea can also dehydrate your body and cause constipation to set in. In fact, many bowel disorders are traced to coffee and tea drinking.

There are great numbers of energy boosters that work wonderfully well, and you should try to use them. They will not only make you active but also provide your body with the much needed energy and nutrients. Nutritionists all over the world recommend fresh food over processed food for leading a healthier life free from diseases. They also help to build the body’s immune system and fight infections.

Next time you feel rundown try one of these energy boosting foods to bounce back with vigor.

  • Lemon Water – A glass full of lemon water is the simplest food one can trust to give instant energy for the body. Preparing lemon water is simple – cut a lemon into two halves and twist the juice into a glass full of water. Dissolve sugar cubes into the mix and add a pinch of salt to enhance lemon’s flavor. Salt has another function – it sort of converts the water into an electrolyte for your body to absorb energy faster. Remember that lemon is also a rich source of vitamin C.
  • Fresh Fruits – We are not talking processed orange or apple juice. They are simply loaded with crystal sugar, and crystal sugar is not what your body needs to provide instant energy. The common fruits to prepare juice are pineapples, oranges, strawberries and blueberries. Preparing juice with these fruits at home is fairly simple – crush them or use a blender to make juice. They are best taken without adding crystal sugar to it. If the fruit tangy, add a little sugar however, and that is for your taste buds and not for your health.
  • Unprocessed fresh nuts – Nuts are fine and are ideal substitutes for snacks (usually high in cooking oil and fats). The next time you have craving for a snack try munching on cashews, almonds or hazelnuts. They are rich in magnesium, an essential nutrient that your body’s cell cannot live without. They provide you enough energy and also take care of your days nutrients.

Water is undoubtedly the best food man has known – it hydrates your body cells, maintains acidity levels and digests food. Next time you feel rundown; just drink a glass of plain water if nothing else is around – nothing in the world can beat it.
